Mikaela Shiffrin was looking for a comeback in her sixth and final event at the Winter Olympics on Sunday, which was rescheduled to just hours before the closing ceremony.
In her last chance to win a medal before leaving Beijing, though, Shiffrin endured another disappointment when she and the United States team fell short of winning a medal in the mixed-gender team parallel event. The United States team was defeated by Norway in the bronze medal matchup, finishing fourth. Austria won the gold by beating Germany, which claimed the silver.
“This is the kind of event where there’s a lot that just hangs in the balance,” Shiffrin said. “You have to just hope that every single one of the people in your team is able to give their very best and every single one of us did today.
