Kansas 98, Purdue 66: Kansas, Playing Before a Friendly Crowd, Easily Dispatches Purdue

Kansas’ players waved their arms on defense, exhorting the crowd. It was loud for the entirety of the top-seeded Jayhawks’ round-of-16 game against fourth-seeded Purdue. And in the second half, when Lagerald Vick picked off a Boilermakers pass and took it all the way, complete with a twisting, 360-degree dunk, it was especially loud — at the next timeout, each side of the arena alternated the “Rock Chalk Jayhawk” chant often heard at Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse, a scant 45 minutes away.

“Thirty-five miles away from Lawrence,” the senior Frank Mason III said after the game, adding, “the fans brought unbelievable energy.”
